You can use CIS in any number of widely differing environments:
Offline
(CAPI or CAPO)Online
(CAWI)From a telephone studio (CATI)
On Smartphones
(Mobile)
You only need one questionnaire for all environments. Once written, with this online software it runs practically unchanged on all platforms.
Offline (CAPI)
The survey program is installed locally on a Windows PC or Windows Mobile PDA. The survey runs offline.

You can work independently of internet access, e.g. when the internet is not available, or you cannot afford to risk break-offs due to poor connections, or if the internet is unsuitable because of high volumes of data (e.g. high-resolution videos).
For example:
- Face-to-face in-home interviews
- POS surveys
- Trade fair surveys
- Test studios
- Car clinics

CISdev generates an installation file containing all components of the project. The installation of a new survey project takes place at the press of a button. The interviewer requires absolutely no knowledge of the system. You need have no fear that anything will go wrong, even in the hectic of a large fieldwork project with many survey computers and widely-distributed interviewers.

Even with offline surveys, there is no need to dispense with central management and online data access. If a survey computer has a facility to access the internet, it can automatically download and install the questionnaire and updates from the CISnet server with no intervention by the interviewer. After every interview, the survey computer attempts to establish an online link to the CISnet server. If successful, the data pools are synchronized. So the survey computer is always up-to-date and the latest data can always be accessed via CISnet.
Thus the security of offline interviews is combined with the actuality of online interviews.

The interview data file is exported to a USB stick via a menu item in the user interface. The interview data can then be gathered in a central computer with the aid of menus. In the project’s installation file, reports can be delivered and installed enabling cross-tabs of the collected data to be carried out offline. Reporting can also be installed on every survey computer, giving interviewers an overview of the interviews they have completed.

With CISmon, the supervisor always has all interviewers in view. In an on-screen overview, he can see what each individual interviewer is doing at any time. In addition, he can follow the interviewers live on screen and give instructions or answer questions via the integrated chat function. In order to use the monitoring function, a small Windows application is installed on the workstations of both the interviewers and the supervisor.

Mixed Mode
Often, different target groups in a project cannot all be reached through the same channel. You can address different target groups via different routes. You can reach some through a panel, some by telephone, and others by face-to-face contact in a studio or at home.

With CIS, you only program one questionnaire. Target group or platform-specific differences are handled within the questionnaire. You coordinate the different channels via CISnet.
